The 5th Commemoration of World Environment Day held on Friday , 5th June 2026 at the
Bediako Memorial Institute, and organized by the National Comission for Civic Education,
NCCE under the theme Climate Action and slogan Inspired by Nature
for
Climate, for Our Future.
Opening & Welcome: THe Headmaster of Bediako Memorial Institute welcomed
participants and
called for collective effort to protect tge environment. He urged adoption of
sustainable practices to build climate resilience and a greener future, stressing the
need to involve youth.
Chairman's remarks: Apostle A.K Labi of the Church of Power Christ Ministry &
Regional
Coordinating Council of Churches in Ghana chaired the event. He stated that
environmental protection is part of our responsibilioty, quoting "cleanliness is next to
godliness". He urged communities to inculcate discipline in waste disposal, especially
in water bodies, gutters, and public spaces.
Keynote/ Technical Address: Mr. Ebo, EPA Officer, encouraged protection of the
environment. He lamented that without action at national, district and municipal levels,
climate change impacts like irrigation problems, deforestation, sand-winning, and
pollution willl become a catastrophe. He noted: rising sea levels, hotter temperatures,
and strong winds destroying buildings, He urged students to be ambassadors, since the
youth are the future of Ghana and the world.
Address by MCE's Representative: Mr. Abdulrahman, respresenting the Municipal
Chief Executive, responded to NCCE Chairperson Mr. Mohammed'sappeal about human capital
deficit which doesn'tcorrespond in percentage in the Works & Physical Department. He
reported ongoing district assembly activities: desilting gutters/ drainages for water
flow. He emphasized climate action is a collective effort, not just the assembly's
job.

- EPA policies: millions of trees planted yearly.
- Whather data systems strengthened with donor funds, now 85% accurate
- Public urged to listen to weather forecasts and change harmful household habits
Tree Planting & Closing: To mark the day, trees were presented to Kumbe Islamic
School, Research institution School, and Bediako International School for planting. The
MCE's rep, Chairman Apostle Labi, NCCE Municipal Director, and Program Chair joined
students in planting trees around Bediako Institute.
Conclusion/ Recommendations: The event reinforced that climate action requires
discipline in waste management, community participation, and youth engagement.
Continuous education and enforcement of environmental policies were highlighted as
critical.
